Our Programs

The key to success for all of our programs is to come together in both small and large groups and build our community through common interests. We accomplish this by providing a variety of program choices.

Education Programs

These programs provide learning opportunities with various thematic content including history, philosophy, film, music, and the arts. We also participate in Asheville’s annual Jewish Film Festival and provide a venue for discussion following each film.

Sharon Blythe, Homeward Bound, Director of Volunteer Services spoke at the JSCA Sukkot service on October 6th.  The organization provides housing and services to the most vulnerable among us in Buncombe and Henderson Counties.  Blythe stressed the importance of the "Housing First" national best practice model for ending homelessness.

Social Programs

Social programs are organized into two groups.

  • Special Interest Groups may meet only once to explore a topic or learn a skill.  They are often led by a JSCA member volunteer with a particular skill or parcel of knowledge to share.
  • Social Groups meet regularly.  These groups include the Singles Group, the Book Club, the Women’s Discussion group, and groups engaged in various games such as Canasta and Bridge.

JSCA's Womens' Discussion Group, formed by Helene Nathanson, provides a warm, safe, supportive environment for JSCA women to explore issues relevant to our lives. Topics already discussed include "Womens' Friendships", "What's So Great About Getting Older", and "How Judgemental Are You?". We meet twice a month at the homes of our members.
